Children like Jayden* need long-term stable foster carers

Find out about how therapeutic foster care can change children’s lives

Jayden is a thoughtful and creative 12-year-old who has been in care for several years. During this time, he has lived in six different foster homes, which has made it hard for him to feel secure and trust adults. Despite these challenges, Jayden has a strong sense of identity and a passion for music.

Jayden loves music and plays the guitar. Music is his outlet; it helps him manage big emotions and gives him confidence. He enjoys writing his own songs and dreams of performing one day. When he feels understood and supported, Jayden can be warm, funny, and engaging.

Jayden has struggled with school attendance and engagement. The frequent moves between foster homes have disrupted his learning, and he finds it hard to connect with teachers due to the lack of having consistent mentors. He wants to build trust but fears rejection and can become withdrawn or defensive when he feels misunderstood.

How we will support Jayden and his foster carers:

  • Specialist training in trauma-informed care (PACE) to provide an environment where he feels secure and understood.
  • Working closely with CAMHS and other mental health professionals to create and follow a therapeutic care plan.
  • Working closely with his school and education professionals to support getting his learning back on track.

What does the future hold for Jayden?

The plan is for Jayden to move into loving family home where he can feel secure. His foster carers would value music and actively encourage his musical interests and give him the support he needs to break down barriers to education and remain in education. This environment will help Jayden thrive and achieve his full potential.
